SCEMES: Schools & Colleges Educational, Maintenance & Equipment Supplies
SCEMES Ltd is the definitive point of reference in education for those who need help in finding a range of suppliers of products and services.
Publisher of the ‘Headteachers and Bursars Handbooks’ which are mailed free to over 30,000 UK schools twice a year, SCEMES Ltd specialises in providing UK schools with easy access to local and national businesses through its directories and supporting online database, as well as its e-quote facility.
SCEMES was started in 1999, having identified the need schools had for reliable and competitive suppliers in the procurement process.
Based in Oswestry, Shropshire, with 25 employees, SCEMES has since grown to be the number one resource for educational purchasing.
SCEMES' Handbooks now have the largest educational circulation in the country and they are supported by NPH (National Primary Headteachers), one of the largest teaching organisations in Britain.
The Handbook of Procurement
Currently in its sixth edition, the Headteachers and BursarS Handbook of Procurement is SCEMES’ flagship publication.
The Handbook is over 300 pages in length and contains a directory of some 3,000 national and regional companies that supply schools with a vast range of products and services.
From curriculum supplies to buildings and grounds maintenance, and capital spending to non-routine requirements, the Handbook of Procurement contains a range of companies that ensure schools are able to source best value products and services no matter what their need.
The A5, full-colour glossy publication is mailed to over 30,000 primary and secondary schools as well as further education colleges each September.
The Handbook of Sustainable Procurement
SCEMES published the first Handbook for Sustainable Procurement for Education in April 2007, and since then has published two further editions of the directory to high acclaim.
The Handbook was established in response to the Government’s 2020 Sustainable Schools Target and is the only directory offering schools a comprehensive list of sustainable suppliers.
‘The Handbook of Sustainable Procurement’ provides schools with a choice of regional and national product and service providers and has rapidly become every teacher’s first point of reference to understanding and solving issues of sustainability within education.
It is distributed to schools and Local Authorities every April.
